Skills test for coders

25 July 2019

Looking for a problem-solving contest for learners who code? Try the 2019 Programming Olympiad!

Any school where there are learners who code should enter this Olympiad. It will challenge learners to practice and improve on their coding skills, as well as, meet other enthusiastic young coders of the Western Cape!

The first round is at schools from 29 July to 2 August 2019. Learners use a computer to solve three problems in an hour. The top 50% per ‘age’ group nationwide receive certificates.

Olympiad manager, Michael Cameron, encouraged learners to enter. “The Programming Olympiad builds coding skills. Even writing a program to solve just one of the tasks is an achievement. The experience of taking part widens horizons for the future.”

The second round on 21 August is more challenging. Participants have two hours to write programs to solve four problems. Keen learners can practise past problems online. Learners can go to https://saco-evaluator.org.za where there is also a 13-minute demonstration video.

Entries from schools are open until the contest closes. There is no charge. Schools may register at http://olympiad.org.za/programming-olympiad/register/ or send an email to info@olympiad.org.za
