Schools of Skills turn heads at Artscape

5 September 2019

The annual Western Cape Schools of Skills Hairdressing Exhibition opened on Wednesday 21 August with learners’ work on display in the foyer of the Artscape Theatre and concluded on 29 August 2019.

The showcase, now in its fifth year, was held for the first time in conjunction with the Schools’ Arts Festival hosted at the Artscape Theatre Centre. The exhibition gives learners an opportunity to showcase their work in a professional environment.

The Schools of Skills Hairdressing Teacher Professional Learning Community (PLC) under the leadership of Glynn Kok, a teacher at Westcliff School of Skills in Bellville, coordinated the exhibition with the support of teachers from Schools of Skills across the province and management at Artscape.

The PLC provides an opportunity for teachers to share good practice and to improve the quality of their teaching.  The work on display is an example of the quality teaching and learning being done in the Schools of Skills with the year 3 and 4 learners.

The focus of the exhibition is to give learners a chance to see their work on display and to motivate them to improve their hairdressing skills. The visit to the Artscape Theatre also gives learners an opportunity to explore career opportunities in the Arts environment.
