Schools gear up for the provincial skills competition

Principals and teachers responsible for Civil Technology, Mechanical Technology and Electrical Technology, Design, Consumer Studies and Hospitality Studies have been invited to meetings in preparation for this year’s provincial skills competition.

The competition aims to promote skilled trades, as well as showcase various career options in these areas.

Learners in Grades 10 and 11 will be competing in various areas, including bricklaying, cabinet making, carpentry, welding, power systems, bake-off and designing.  They will be judged on their accuracy, fit and finish.

The winners of the provincial competition on 21 September 2019 will advance to the National Skills Competition.

Neil Simons, Deputy Chief Education Specialist responsible for Civil Technology and Engineering Graphics and Design, said they hope to see a huge turnout of principals and teachers at the meetings on 16 March, 10 April and 11 April 2019 at Bellville Technical High School, PW Botha College in George and Langenhoven Gymnasium in Oudtshoorn, respectively.
