Modderdam High learners to hone their STEM skills

Modderdam High School in Bonteheuwel launched its Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) labs. The initiative is aimed at giving Bonteheuwel learners the opportunity to improve competitiveness in science and technology and prepare them for future careers.

The STEM lab, Natural Science lab and Physical Science labs were all upgraded with state of the art ICT equipment as well as various science kits to make the presentation of science subjects more relevant.

The project was funded by DXC Technology.  The Cape Town Science Centre provided science kits and periodic table charts and the Metro Central Education District acted in an advisory capacity.

Husain Mollagee, the project catalyst, from the e-learning unit at Metro Central, said that Modderdam High was a natural choice because of the diligence and commitment of the principal and staff.

The majority of the signage and artwork were done by learners who were deliberately involved in order to take ownership of the huge project.

The principal, Rona Rayray, said the launch marked to start of the work to effectively integrate the use of the equipment into curriculum delivery.
