Love2Read Initiative

30 May 2019

EDULIS has completed delivery of Love2Read (L2R) material in the Western Cape.

The Love2Read Initiative was rolled out in 148 classrooms in Grades 3, 4 and 5 across the province in all districts. It is anticipated that through this initiative, every classroom will become an active reading room, and every learner an active reader.

The L2R educators received 9 620 books of which more than half are brand new. A total of 63 L2R educators also received 12 600 English readers which was donated by Sony, Hong Kong and arranged by the South African Primary Education Support Initiative (SAPESI).

In a letter to schools, Aubrey Africa, Head of Edulis, emphasised that the aim was for learners to develop a love for reading.

“Please allow the learners to take the books home. With some book education, good record keeping and instilling a sense of responsibility, the learners will not disappoint us. Do not underestimate our learners.”

Africa said Edulis already received positive feedback from schools and the team was encouraged by the enthusiasm of the educators. “Our kids enjoy the lovely new modern, interesting books. Thanks a lot”, was the response from one of the schools, while another educator said: “I love the books and I am sure the kids are going to love it too. Thank you so much”.

Africa expressed a special word of appreciation to the EDULIS team for procuring, preparing and delivering the material. “This was really a team effort.”
