EXCO wraps up district visits.

29 August 2019

This week, the Executive Committee of the WCED wrapped up a series of visits to schools and district offices across the Province.

Members of EXCO visited a school in each of the eight education districts, followed by a presentation by the Head of Department, Brian Schreuder, to all district staff and then a meeting with the district’s management team.

Mr Schreuder presented to all staff an update on how we are progressing as a Department to achieve our vision of Quality Education for every learner, in every classroom, in every school in the Province and our strategies going forward.

“We got to start thinking! We need to do things differently, embrace it and drive it. We should not be hampered by bureaucratic limitations and just think and do differently,” he said to the staff at Eden and Central Karoo District.

“We are not relevant enough if we cannot eradicate the inequality gap,” he told staff at Metro South District while explaining how “Transform to Perform” and E-learning could help ‘leapfrog inequality’ to achieve Quality Education.

The visits to schools were both inspiring and sobering where school functionality was questioned and scrutinised.

The management meeting at each district then focused on progress in the roll-out of Transform to Perform and E-learning, as well as, performance in Grades 3,6, 9 and 12.

District progress on the three priority foci of: (a) school functionality, (b) quality teaching and learning and (c) enabling school governance was also discussed. It was a productive and reflective series of engagements.

A big thanks to all the schools who welcomed the EXCO team, as well as, the district staff who hosted them so graciously.
