Camps Bay HS serves community with love

8 August 2019

Camps Bay High School "took over" the Ladles of Love Soup Kitchen at The Haven Night-Shelter in Green Point on Thursday, 25 July 2019.

The learners prepared and served meals for Ladles of Love's guests at the shelter.

Camps Bay High School Principal, Dave de Korte, said it was a great opportunity for the learners to serve the community and a wonderful launch for the school’s brand new state-of-art Consumer Studies Classroom.

Camps Bay High School raised over R12 000 in donations from Camps Bay High School families for ingredients for the soup kitchen.

"Due to the generosity of our families, we are able to take over soup kitchens regularly and plan to repeat this again soon," De Korte added.

Recently, learners at the school used newspaper, plastic and packaging tape to make sleeping bags for homeless.

The idea was first conceived by Rotarian, Jo Maxwell.  Students watched an instruction video and then made up 25 sleeping bags, with the guidance and assistance from volunteers from Better SA.
