Calitzdorp learners display their skills at agriculture youth shows

16 May 2019

Learners at Calitzdorp High School are raking in the prizes at agriculture youth shows.

The school was declared an agriculture focus school in June 2018 and since then the learners have been taking part in youth shows in Heidelberg, Riversdal and Swellendam where they claimed several first prizes in their categories.

In February, learners took part in the Heidelberg Youth Show and claimed the top four positions in the culinary art category.

Learners qualified for the Western Cape Youth Show Championships in March but the school decided to wait till next year to compete.

Principal Andrew Davids said the school’s long term focus is to foster school pride among learners as well as instill a sense of belonging to Calitzdorp High School.  “Our belief is that our learners are the future leaders and we as a school want to encourage them to believe in themselves and build self-confidence.  We want to introduce them to a world where they can make their mark as well as the knowledge that education can open many doors of opportunities.”

The school has formed partnerships with stakeholders in the surrounding areas and Davids said their support has enabled the school to go from strength to strength. He said with these partnerships the school can surely see their youth grow into respected young men and women.
