Awards to Schools

Category 1 - Excellence in academic performance

In this category, awards are made to all schools in the province (including independent schools) that have achieved excellence in academic results in 2015, based on the following criteria:

Category 1a - all schools

  1. Consistency in number of Grade 12 candidates over the 3 year period of 2013 to 2015
  2. An overall pass rate of at least 95%
  3. Percentage of candidates with access to Bachelor's degree study that is 80% and above
  4. Percentage of candidates with Mathematics passes that is 60% and above

The ranking of schools will be determined by calculating a weighted ranking index as follows:

  • Point (b) above: 10% weight
  • Point (c) above: 60% weight
  • Point (d) above: 30% weight

  1. Consistency in number of Grade 12 candidates over a period of 3 years (2013-2015)
  2. An overall pass rate of at least 80%
  3. Percentage of candidates with Mathematics passes that is 40% and above
  4. Aggregate pass rate of the technical subjects (Engineering Graphics and Design; Civil Technology; Electrical Technology and Mechanical Technology)

The ranking of technical high schools will be determined by calculating a weighted ranking index as follows:

  • Point (b) above: 10% weight
  • Point (c) above: 30% weight
  • Point (d) above: 60% weight

Awards will be made to ten (10) schools that have shown the greatest improvement in pass rate over the period 2013 to 2015. The criteria also include consistency in the number of Grade 12 candidates over the 3 year period.
