Letter regarding 'premature circulation of mathematics paper 2' a fake.

Statement by Minister Debbie Schäfer, Minister of Education

It has been brought to our attention that a letter, which appears on a Department of Basic Education's letterhead, is being circulated to Matric learners. It says that the National Senior Certificate (NSC) Mathematics Paper 2 was distributed prematurely and that those candidates will need to re-write the subject on Monday 30th November 2015.

The letter reads 'Due to reports of the premature circulation of the Core Mathematics Paper 2 all National Senior Certificate Candidates having written the paper on 2nd November this year are to re-write the subject on Monday, 30 November 2015 from 09:00 to 12:00'.

We have checked with the Department of Basic Education, who have confirmed that this is not true.

It is most unfortunate that some selfish individuals engage in destructive behavior such as this which only serves to unnecessarily increase the stress surrounding these exams, and cause questions around the integrity of the examinations.

I understand that the distribution of the letter has been cause for alarm amongst our NSC candidates. I wish to assure you that the letter is a fake and I encourage you to remain focused for the last couple of weeks of the NSC.
