WCED adds Life Sciences videos to their Matric support page. Statement by Paddy Attwell, Director of Communications, Western Cape Education Department The Western Cape Education Department has added 52 videos on Life Sciences to its new Matric Support web site. (wced.school.za) The department introduced a new version of the Matric Support site on 16 September, which included videos on selected subjected for the first time. The site initially included links to 180 videos on YouTube covering Mathematics, Physical Science and Geography. There are now 232 videos on the site, with Life Sciences. The videos have attracted more than 8 000 views so far. The latest videos on Life Sciences cover the Code of Life (DNA and RNA) (17 videos); inheritance and genetic disorders (5); evolution (10); life processes (7); population ecology (8); and community ecology (interactions) (5). The department has produced the videos by editing recordings of Telematics lessons provided jointly by WCED and Stellenbosch University. The WCED and Stellenbosch University are broadcasting the lessons to 144 high schools via satellite. The Telematics programme forms part of wide range of support initiatives for matric candidates in the Western Cape during the course of 2014.
