Statement by Donald Grant, MEC for Education in the Western Cape

Following a number of amicable engagements between Mr Ron Swartz and MEC Donald Grant, it was agreed to by both parties that there would be a re-determination of Mr Ron Swartz's contract, as the law allows, in terms of Section 12(4) of the Public Services Act.

The mutual agreement was reached on Wednesday, 1 July 2009.

Ms. Sindi Lingela, Deputy-Director-General : Institutional Development is now acting Head of Department.

Because the process is still being finalised, it remains private and confidential.

Our focus is now to ensure that a smooth transition takes place and that the WCED delivers the best possible service to teachers and learners.
