Learners injured in bus accident

A learner and a bus driver sustained serious injuries when a bus carrying 14 learners left the road between Montagu and Barrydale this morning.

The learners are from WA Rossouw Primary School in Montagu. The principal, Mr A Fielies, said that two learners were slightly injured and others sustained minor injuries. They were taken to the Worcester Mediclininc for treatment.

Mr Fielies said it was very misty this morning. The bus apparently left the road and landed in a riverbed.

A social worker from the Cape Winelands Education District office of the Western Cape Education Department provided trauma debriefing, joined later by a school psychologist from the district office. Officials from the district office are investigating.
