All 211 learners who were promoted irregularly at Matthew Goniwe High School have chosen to remain in their current grades.

The department gave parents and the learners the option of returning to their previous grades, but they have decided not to.

The department would normally insist that they return, but a whole term passed before the irregularities were discovered, and our investigation has found that the learners were not responsible for issuing incorrect reports.

Our Labour Relations directorate is finalising reports needed to charge those responsible for specific actions, and for general supervision of the promotions process.

Our district office is developing plans to support the learners concerned, while also improving teaching, learning and management of the school in general.
