CATEGORY 1 - EXCELLENCE IN ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE
In the category of academic excellence there are two sub-categories: excellence in academic achievement in the context within which the school operates and excellence according to a set of given criteria..
Category 1a: Excellence in academic achievement in the context within which the school operates
In this category, awards will be presented to eight schools where the academic performance in 2009 illustrates meritorious outcomes relative to the context within which the school operates and where there is consistency in the number of candidates (at least 90% of the previous 3 years). The 'context within which a school operates' is based on the quintile (1 - 3), the pass rate and endorsement rate of the school and the number of subject distinctions. 'Meritorious outcomes' will be based on a weighted index which will include both number of candidates that wrote (minimum of 35) and number / percentage of successful candidates in the 2009 National Senior Certificate examinations.
