SENIOR CERTIFICATE EXAMINATIONS 2007

ADDENDUM B

GRADE 12 AWARDS FOR MERITORIOUS ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE BY LEARNERS IN 2007

INTRODUCTION

The Western Cape Education Department presents awards to the top 20 positions according to aggregate based on 2 official languages and the best 4 subjects that fulfil the requirements for the award of a Senior Certificate.

In addition, awards are also presented to learners who have achieved excellence in terms of the context within which they studied. Here attention is given to learners who despite disadvantaged contexts were able to produce outstanding results. In line with the Human Capital Development Strategy and the focus on improving the results in literacy and numeracy, awards are also presented to learners who have attained excellent results in subjects that reflect literacy and numeracy skills at the highest level of schooling.

In terms of the Mathematics, Science and Technology strategy (MST), it is critical that we also recognise learners who have excelled in Mathematics and Science. The WCED would also like to recognise learners who despite barriers to learning are able to produce excellent examination results. Lastly, we would be failing in our duty as educationists if we do not give recognition to learners who are committed to lifelong learning.

Each learner will receive a certificate and an award of R1000 for books or study fees.
