The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) will expand the scope of the National School Nutrition Programme early in 2006, thanks to a new conditional grant from the national Department of Education (DoE).

The DoE increased the conditional grant to the Western Cape for the National School Nutrition Programme by R8-million in November last year (2005).

The WCED welcomes the additional grant, because it has enabled the WCED to provide more meals and to install kitchen equipment and mobile kitchens that will enable us to provide more hot meals. We will spend all of the budget for this programme by the end of the financial year (31 March 2006).
