WESTERN CAPE PROVINCIAL WINNERS


  • CATEGORY:   EXCELLENCE IN EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT
  • WINNER:   Welgemoed Pre-primary School - Ronel Barkhuysen, Lorinda Verwey
                     and Megan Miranda


    Ronel Barkhuysen, Lorinda Verwey and Megan Miranda teach at Welgemoed Pre-primary School. They have developed and grown as an effective teaching unit, meeting regularly to develop materials, and organizing activities inside and outside the school environment. An outstanding feature is their involvement in networking with other schools so as to enhance the teaching methods used in the early childhood development phase.

  • WINNER:   Jolene Arendse - Morrisdale Primary School

    Jolene Arendse is an educator who teaches beyond the classroom. She believes in holistically developing the learner in a way that empowers him/her to deal effectively with challenges which they face daily. Besides providing an excellent support for learners, Jolene is also involved in community-based programmes, in particular, gender-based violence and the empowerment of women in society.

  • CATEGORY:   EXCELLENCE IN SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHING
  • WINNER:   Linda Nguza - Oscar Mpetha High School

    Oscar Mpetha High School is privileged to have Linda Nguza as part of their team. This dedicated and driven educator has achieved outstanding success in teaching Xhosa – on various occasions obtaining the best results in the Western Cape in particular grades. She instills in her learners a deep sense of pride in their heritage and makes it a point to also actively participate in community projects. She writes plays and has also authored a number of poems.

  • CATEGORY:   EXCELLENCE IN SPECIAL NEEDS TEACHING
  • WINNER:   Heidi Myburgh - Swartland Primary School

    A high level of energy and enthusiasm marks the teaching style of Heidi Myburgh of Swartland Primary School. Of note is the fact that her special needs class is integrated in a mainstream primary school. Heidi Myburgh fosters a caring environment in her classroom, which has a positive impact on each of her learners.

  • CATEGORY:   EXCELLENCE IN LEADERSHIP AT THE PRIMARY SCHOOL LEVEL
  • WINNER:   Colin Baron, Imperial Primary School

    Colin Baron has proved that success is what you make of a particular situation, and how best to use available resources is key to making things happen. Together with the staff of Imperial Primary School, Colin Baron has turned the school around into a well-resourced and financially sustainable institution. He played a major role in motivating his staff and the school community to commit to a long term vision of the school as a centre of excellence. They are progressing at a furious pace in realizing this vision!

  • CATEGORY:   EXCELLENCE IN LEADERSHIP AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL
  • WINNER:   Norman Cloete - Weston High School

    Building partnerships and effectively channeling the ideas and energy of his staff is an outstanding attribute of Norman Cloete, the principal of Weston High School. He was instrumental in securing funding from different sources for school projects and curriculum enhancement initiatives at the school. His vision and leadership qualities add tremendous value to the school’s development, and the school has experienced many successes with this outstanding leader at the helm.

  • CATEGORY:   LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
  • WINNER:   Trevor Webster, The Settlers High School

    Trevor Webster has been the principal of The Settlers High School for the past fourteen years. His career, spanning over thirty eight years, is marked by an unwavering commitment to delivering the best and by leading by example. He is regarded by many as an education pioneer- introducing new policies and management systems at the school- and is well respected within the education fraternity.
