1. As per the Western Cape Premier’s announcement on Wednesday, 31 January 2018, the Western Cape Government’s (WCG) overall objective is to ensure that schools in areas most affected by the province's crippling drought will remain open after Day Zero. Within the above context, I applaud schools for instituting pro-active measures to remain operational after Day Zero.

2. The School Emergency Water Plan Survey for ordinary and LSEN (learners with special educational needs) schools will be used to verify the results of surveys undertaken previously to ensure that the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has an accurate record of schools’ access to and use of augmented water supplies as well as to capture any changes you have made due to pro-active measures implemented.

3. Before sign-off on CEMIS, the principal or his/her delegate must ensure the following:

  1. The status of augmented water supplies (e.g. boreholes and water storage containers) and fire safety devices (fire hose reels and extinguishers) is correct.
  2. The sign-off section of the survey must be completed as confirmation of the verification of the data as an accurate reflection of the current status on augmented water supplies and fire safety devices at the school.
4. The School Emergency Water Plan survey must be completed and signed off by the principal on CEMIS by 19 February 2018.

5. Should there be any difficulties in completing the survey, kindly liaise with the relevant circuit manager or district official listed below:
