In May 2017, the Council of Education Ministers (CEM) approved that all school-based educators sign their relevant job descriptions (JDs). |

The core duties and responsibilities for educators on post level 1–4 are outlined from pages 18–35 of the revised Personnel Administrative Measures (PAM) as per Government Gazette No. 39684, dated 12 February 2016. |

The PAM outlines the roles and responsibilities of school-based educators as follows:
- Annexure A.2: Teacher
- Annexure A.3: Senior teacher
- Annexure A.4: Master teacher
- Annexure A.5: Departmental head
- Annexure A.6: Deputy principal
- Annexure A.7: Principal

The circuit manager, as the immediate supervisor of the principal, will be required to co-sign the job descriptions with all principals in their respective circuits. |

Principals are required to ensure that all educators at their schools have their job descriptions co-signed with their relevant supervisors (departmental heads and deputy principals respectively). |

Implementation for the signing of job descriptions will be phased in as follows:
| Phase 1: |
All principals to sign their job descriptions for 2018 with their respective supervisors by 30 November 2018. |
| Phase 2: |
All school-based educators, including School Management Teams (SMTs), to sign their job descriptions for 2018 with their respective supervisors by 14 December 2018. |

In support of enhancing accountability in the department, it is hereby requested that Circuit Managers and Principals ensure that schools comply with this directive. |
