1. |
In support of the eLearning Game Changer, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) is providing schools with e-Safety guidelines as presented by the Department of Basic Education (DBE). |
2. |
The DBE and the WCED recognise that educating our learners about online/cyber safety is critical. |
3. |
The digital copy of these guidelines as attached may be shared with all teachers, parents and the governing body. A printed copy in booklet form will be sent to all schools shortly. |
4. |
In order for this booklet to achieve the desired outcome of creating awareness and preparing schools to manage the safety of learners and teachers online, it must be conveyed to all role players effectively. |
5. |
The electronic booklet (and the printed hard copy edition) provides important insight into the responsibilities of the school, principals, teachers, learners and parents/guardians regarding online safety. |
6. |
Of particular interest for discussion and dissemination are the following:
- Advantages and issues of concern of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) access in schools
- Online harassment and cyberbullying
- Exposure to inappropriate material online
- Inappropriate or illegal online behaviours
- Inappropriate sexual conduct online
- Plagiarism and copyright infringement
- Obsessive use of the internet
|
7. |
It will guide the processes of developing the school's ICT policy and Acceptable Use Policies (AUP). |
