1. The Department of Arts and Culture, in conjunction with the Library and Information Association of South Africa (LIASA), have declared that South African Library Week (SALW) 2017 will be celebrated from 18 to 26 March 2017 with the theme "My Library, Your library".
2. The theme encourages and motivates members of our society to reflect on the role and value of libraries in their lives.
3. The theme also encourages everyone to realise that libraries are preferred one-stop, socially inclusive spaces for advancing literacy through the intellectual and aesthetic development of all ages.
4. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) encourages schools to partake in the national LIASA competition by doing the following:

After SALW please tell us what you planned and whether the planned activities were successful and stand a chance of winning a surprise hamper sponsored by Wiley which you can collect from your closest Van Schaik store. Please enter electronically and answer the following questions (these questions will also assist you in the planning of your event/activities/exhibition):

  • Describe what you planned for SALW 2017.
  • What were the objectives of your planned event/activities/exhibition?
  • Who was your target audience and how did your SALW 2017 activities impact on them?
  • Was your planned SALW 2017 event/activites/exhibition successful? Why do you think the judges should consider your library for the prize?
