1. According to the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) for Languages in the Senior Phase (Grades 7-9), learners must undertake "formal study of literary texts" including short stories, novels, poetry and drama.
2. The final lists of recommended books for Grades 7 to 9 Literature Study for 2018 are enclosed.
3. Schools are advised to consult the WCED Institutional Learning Support Minute: 0005/2013 when planning to use the attached 2018 final literature lists for the purchase of literature.
4. Schools should note that the purpose of this list is to help Grades 7 to 9 language teachers with the selection of literary texts. Many texts include questions, applications and notes to support learners. For some titles there is support available on the internet at http://education.slims.gov.za
