1. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) was requested by the Department of Basic Education to inform all schools offering technical subjects in the Western Cape Province of the implementation of the technical specialisation subjects, including Technical Mathematics and Technical Sciences, for technical schools.
2. All schools were informed via Curriculum FET Minute DCF 0005/2015 of the implementation date.
3. The success of the implementation of the new technical subjects, as well as Technical Mathematics and Technical Sciences, is dependent upon human capital with the necessary skills and content knowledge.
4. Therefore there is a need for developing the teachers who will offer the new technical subjects. The WCED has identified well-resourced institutions suitable for the training of these teachers.
5. It is therefore essential that all teachers from technical schools work together in making sure that teachers offering Civil, Electrical, Mechanical Technology and Technical Sciences attend two five-day training sessions from Monday to Friday during the June and September school holidays of 2017.
6. Teachers who have been identified to offer Technical Mathematics should attend two five-day training sessions from Monday to Friday during the March and June school holidays of 2017. The exact dates and venues will be communicated shortly.
7. The CAPS technical specialisation subjects, Technical Mathematics and Technical Sciences, were implemented in 2016 for Grade 10. These subjects will be introduced in 2017 for Grade 11 and in 2018 for Grade 12. Therefore, the orientation and skills training for Grade 12 teachers must take place in 2017.
8. Please bring the contents of this minute to the attention of all teachers in your school.
