1. The 25th of May is annually commemorated throughout South Africa as "Africa Day".

2. The purpose of commemorating Africa Day is to celebrate African unity and the independence of African countries from colonial powers.

3. This commemoration will provide an opportunity to raise awareness and gain a common understanding of the different cultures at schools, while addressing the root causes of xenophobic attacks within communities.

4. Principals and teachers are requested to find a suitable time during the week preceding Africa Day to make learners aware of the significance of this day for all citizens.

5. The following attachments have been included:

  • An annexure to assist with activities for this day
  • Copies of the African Union (AU) Anthem
