1. It has come to the attention of the Department of Basic Education that a large number of learners registered to write the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations in 2016 were unable to produce valid identification documents and/or passports.

2. As from January 2018, it will be compulsory for a learner registering to write the NSC examinations to produce valid identification documents. Failure to produce these documents will result in learners not being registered for the 2018 NSC examinations.
2.1 South African citizens must produce a South African Identity Document (ID) or Smart ID Card.
2.2 Immigrants (non-South African citizens) must produce a passport and a valid study permit.
2.3 Asylum seekers must produce the relevant documents from the Department of Home Affairs with a study permit.

3. Principals are requested to inform all current Grade 11 learners so that those who still do not possess the required official documents, can obtain same in the next few months.
