It has come to the attention of the Department of Basic Education that a large number of learners registered to write the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations in 2016 were unable to produce valid identification documents and/or passports. |

As from January 2018, it will be compulsory for a learner registering to write the NSC examinations to produce valid identification documents. Failure to produce these documents will result in learners not being registered for the 2018 NSC examinations. |

South African citizens must produce a South African Identity Document (ID) or Smart ID Card. |
2.2 |
Immigrants (non-South African citizens) must produce a passport and a valid study permit. |
2.3 |
Asylum seekers must produce the relevant documents from the Department of Home Affairs with a study permit. |

Principals are requested to inform all current Grade 11 learners so that those who still do not possess the required official documents, can obtain same in the next few months. |
