Improving Mathematics in all grades is one of the key priorities of the Western Cape Education Department (WCED). |
2. |
The WCED has developed a comprehensive training course that will hopefully take the teaching of Mathematics to the next level. |
3. |
This training aims to develop educators in the following areas of Mathematics teaching:
- question techniques to stimulate Mathematical thinking;
- strategies to help learners understand and interpret questions;
- strategies to set questions at different cognitive levels;
- setting quality tests and assessment tasks;
- how to moderate a test paper/formal assessment task;
- quality assuring learners' work; and
- how to use item and error analysis and provide the appropriate support.
|
4. |
The course will certainly offer a hands-on experience in all the aspects mentioned. |
5. |
To this end all subject advisers have been trained and the WCED is looking forward to training the next tier of line managers responsible for Mathematics at school level. |
