1. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) was requested by the Department of Basic Education to inform all schools offering technical subjects in the Western Cape Province of the implementation of the technical specialisation subjects, including Technical Mathematics and Technical Sciences, for technical schools.
2. All schools were informed via Minute DCF 0005/2015 of the implementation date.
3. The success of the implementation of the new technical subjects, as well as Technical Mathematics and Technical Sciences, is dependent upon human capital with the necessary skills and content knowledge.
4. Therefore there is a need for developing the educators who will offer the new technical subjects. The WCED has identified well-resourced institutions suitable for the training of these educators.
5. It is therefore essential that all educators from technical schools work together in making sure that educators offering Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Technology as well as educators who have been identified to offer Technical Mathematics and Technical Sciences attend two five-day training sessions from Monday to Friday during the June and September school holidays of 2016. The exact dates and venues will be communicated shortly.
6. The CAPS technical specialisation subjects, Technical Mathematics and Technical Sciences have been implemented in 2016 for Grade 10 and will be introduced for Grade 11 in 2017. Therefore, the orientation and skills training for Grade 11 educators must take place in 2016.
7. Please bring the content of this minute to the attention of all educators in your school.
