1. |
The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) is offering lessons which are broadcast, via the interactive Telematics platform (lessons beamed via satellite technology), during the period February-November 2016. |
2. |
The lessons during February and March will accommodate the Grade 12 learners of 2016 and candidates writing the supplementary National Senior Certificate examinations (NSC). |
3. |
Candidates writing the supplementary examinations may attend the broadcasts at a Telematics equipped school nearest to their place of residence (see Annexure B for the location of these schools). These candidates are requested to bring their own stationery to the lessons. Candidates who do not have access to any school listed in Annexure B can purchase support lessons on DVDs at a nominal price from the WCED by calling EDUMEDIA at 021 689 9536. See catalogue attached as Annexure C. |
4. |
The lessons will accommodate the different grades as follows:
February and March |
Current Grade 12 and those writing supplementary examinations |
April to September |

6. |
The attached Annexure A provides the timetable of lessons as well as the topics. |
7. |
The topics of the lessons will also be printed in the learner booklets which are provided to each learner in each of the seven subjects. Principals must enquire from the FET co-ordinator in their district if the booklets were not delivered to their schools by Friday, 22 January 2016. |
8. |
The presenters are lead teachers chosen for their expertise in their subjects. |
9. |
Since lessons are conducted after school hours during the week, it is important that principals discuss arrangements with the parents of the Grade 11 and 12 learners, and also their governing bodies. |
10. |
The attendance of learners will be regularly monitored by Head Office and district officials. |
11. |
Principals will be expected to report quarterly on attendance of learners, as well as successes or difficulties experienced with the programme. |
12. |
Should you have any queries about this initiative, please feel free to contact Dr G Schreuder at telephone 021 467 2576 or e-mail address Glynis.Schreuder@westerncape.gov.za |
13. |
Principals of non-Telematics schools are requested to encourage and assist candidates writing the supplementary examination to take advantage of this opportunity. |
14. |
Principals are requested to bring the content of this minute to the attention of the relevant staff, Grades 11 and 12 learners and their parents or guardians. |
