1. The National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination was administered for the first time according to the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statements (CAPS) in 2014.
2. In the Examination Guidelines for Computer Applications Technology (CAT) that was sent out to schools in 2014, Office 2007 and LibreOffice were included. However, in the 2016 examination, these programmes will no longer be assessed. In addition, new technologies have been included as stipulated in the CAPS.
3. Attached to this Minute are the Department of Basic Education (DBE) Circular E8 of 2016 and the amended examination guidelines for CAT, which replaces the one sent out in 2014. These new examination guidelines are effective as from 2016.
4. The examination guidelines will also be made available on the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) website (see http://wcedonline.pgwc.gov.za).
5. Principals are kindly requested to bring this information to the attention of all Grade 12 CAT educators and candidates.
