1. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED), in collaboration with Wordworks (a specialist organisation on emergent literacy), will roll out a province-wide project for all Grade R educators and practitioners in 2016. This project will be referred to as the Emergent Literacy (ELIT) intervention.
2. The purpose of the ELIT intervention is to strengthen the teaching of Home Language with the use of appropriate resources so as to improve language and literacy performance levels in the Foundation Phase (FP).
3. To this end 200 Grade R lead educators and practitioners have undergone training in preparation for the full rollout of the ELIT intervention in 2016.
4. Principals responsible for Grade R are requested to register their Grade R educators/practitioners for the ELIT training on the attached registration form and return it to the relevant district GET co-ordinator before 15 January 2016.

This will be the responsibility of the school management team to organise.
6. The training will be provided in a series of cluster workshops (3 hours each) plus one block 5-day workshop. Educators/practitioners are required to attend the full programme.
