1. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) was requested by the Department of Basic Education to inform all schools offering technical subjects in the Western Cape Province of the implementation of the technical specialisation subjects including Technical Mathematics and Technical Sciences for technical schools.
2. All schools were informed via Minute DCF 0005/2015 dated 13 February 2015 of the implementation date.
3. The success of the implementation of the new technical subjects, including Technical Mathematics and Technical Sciences, is dependent upon human capital with the necessary skills and content knowledge.
4. Therefore there is a need for developing those teachers who will offer the new technical subjects. The WCED has identified well-resourced institutions suitable for the training of these teachers.
5. It is therefore essential that all teachers at technical schools work together in making sure that teachers offering Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Technology, including those teachers who have been identified to offer Technical Mathematics and Technical Sciences, attend a seven day training session from Monday to Sunday during the June school holiday and a seven day training session during the September school holiday. Exact dates and venues will be communicated shortly.
6. The CAPS technical specialisation subjects will be incrementally implemented in Grade 10 from 2016 and therefore orientation and skills training must take place during 2015.
7. Please bring the content of this minute to the attention of all teachers in your school.
