1. The Cape Teaching and Leadership Institute (CTLI) will again be offering teacher development courses, conferences and seminars to principals, deputy principals, heads of department and teachers, either during school terms or school holidays, during 2016.

2. All courses that will be presented by the CTLI in 2016 will be made available on the CTLI website: www.wcedctli.co.za

3. Teachers interested in attending these courses must sign up via the website.

4. Registered users can click on the "Sign in" link of the home page and sign in using a username or e-mail address and password, in order to sign up for courses.

5. First time users can register as follows:
5.1 Click on the "Register here" link which will take you to the "Sign in" or "Register here" page.
5.2 The following fields must be completed:

  • Username: create your username which you will need every time when you log in to the CTLI webpage.
  • Valid/active e-mail address: enter your active and valid e-mail address. If you do not have an active e-mail address, you need to create one before proceeding further. An e-mail address is needed for communication purposes.
  • Password: enter or create your password.
  • Confirm your password.
  • Confirm that you are a human visitor by dragging the correct shape at the bottom of the page to the grey "drop area" (this is to ensure that it is not a computer generated phishing attempt).
  • Click on "create a new account".
5.3 Once you have clicked on "create a new account", the following screen appears: "Let’s confirm your email address".
5.4 Then open your e-mails and verify your e-mail account by following the instructions sent to you about your account details at CTLI. Click the first link in the message which will take you to the "Edit your profile" page.
5.5 Create your full profile by completing your "Personal and Work Information".
5.6 Then click "Submit" and your personal profile will be updated on the system
5.7 Once you have created your profile then view all courses offered at CTLI and sign up for the course/s you wish to attend.
5.8 Then submit your application.

6. Your application will be reviewed by the district officials, approved or declined by the district director and, only after district sign-off, will a final decision be taken by the CTLI programme co-ordinator.

7. Throughout this process you will be receiving e-mails informing you about the status of your application. You can also log in on the system and check the status of your application from the history page.

8. Although these instructions may seem complicated, the system was designed to be user friendly and you can simply follow the instructions on the system. 9. Each course on the system will indicate a window period for applications for that course and you are advised to only apply within the prescribed period.

10. Signing up for seminars, conferences, school holidays and week-end interventions must be communicated directly with the relevant CTLI Programme Co-ordinator.

11. The Western Cape Education Department will employ substitute teachers for the duration of courses being attended by incumbent teachers at the CTLI during school terms, provided that:

  • there is no teacher in excess at the school;
  • the incumbent teacher is not a teacher paid by the governing body; and
  • the incumbent teacher is not already substituting for another teacher.
12. It is the responsibility of the school to find and nominate a suitable substitute for a teacher attending a course.

13. Only 50 teachers can sign up for each of the courses offered during the school term.
