Brief summary: Free SARS school learner tax education programmes for Grade 10 – 12 educators and learners.


1. The South African Revenue Service (SARS), in conjunction with the Department of Basic Education, is offering free tax education programmes for Grade 10 – 12 educators and learners at Western Cape Education Department high schools.
2. The curriculum-based programmes will be available on request and will be facilitated by professionals with first-hand experience in the relevant topics outlined below.
3. The following programmes are being offered to schools:

Life Orientation Grade 10 – 12
1. Career and choices
2. Social and environmental responsibility
Accounting Grade 10
3. Value Added Tax (VAT)
4. Salaries and wages journals
5. Financial accounting of sole trader
6. Sole trader – interpretation of financial statements
Accounting Grade 11
7. Financial accounting of partnerships preparation
8. Financial accounting of partnerships preparation – analysis and interpretation
9. Value Added Tax (VAT)
Accounting Grade 12
10. Financial accounting of close corporations
11. Value Added Tax (VAT)
4. The programmes will be scheduled so that SARS facilitators will spend a day at the schools assisting Grade 10 – 12 educators and learners on these topics as needed.
5. The programme is being offered from September 2014 to March 2015 during the Life Orientation, commerce subjects or Mathematical Literacy periods during school hours.
6. Schools wishing to book the services of the SARS facilitators can contact engagementct@sars.gov.za to book the relevant sessions. Bookings will be handled on a first come, first served basis and is subject to the availability of SARS facilitators.
7. Schools are encouraged to make full use of this opportunity as it presents both educators and learners with a unique opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge from SARS practitioners.
