1. As employees of the Western Cape Education Department (WCED), we all wish to develop a culture of reading in our schools and communities. Principals are therefore encouraged to use the opportunity presented by the South African Book Fair (SABF) to promote reading among our young people, their teachers and their parents.
2. The SABF will be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 13 to 15 June 2014, and will offer numerous events including readings, book launches, panel discussions, seminars, workshops and puppet shows.
3. The SABF will open to the general public and schools from 09:00 to 18:00 daily, from Friday, 13 June, to Sunday, 15 June 2014. The entrance fee is R50 per day for adults, R20 for pensioners, and persons under the age of 18 enter free.
4. Officials, teachers and learners are encouraged to visit the Department of Basic Education’s stand at the book fair where the WCED will be participating in the showcasing of school libraries, reading and storytelling.
5. Details of certain events will appear in the media and also on the following website: http://www.thebereed.co.za/southafricanbookfair/
6. Further information on the fair is attached. Alternatively, contact Belinda Unterslak at the book fair office at tel. no. (011) 549 8300 or e-mail Belinda@ThebeReed.co.za
