1. The Western Cape Education Department is committed to ensuring that all learners are kept informed about all sources of information that would assist them to make informed decisions.

2. The Department of Higher Education and Training, in collaboration with the South African Qualifications Authority and supported by the Department of Basic Education, has produced a booklet for Grade 12 learners, entitled "Apply Now!".

3. The booklet provides information on post-school studies and the relevant registration procedures. It supports the topic, "Career and Career Choices", in the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) for Life Orientation.

4. The Apply Now! campaign booklets will be delivered to all ordinary public high schools to encourage Grade 12 learners to apply timeously for admission at post-school institutions.

5. The Apply Now! campaign is part of the National Career Development Services (CDS) which includes the following key elements:

  • Career Advice Helpline;
  • Khetha radio programmes;
  • Training and Support Services; and
  • Career events, exhibitions and the annual Mandela Day Career Guidance Festival.
6. It is important that high school learners are made aware of available career choices and the importance of applying for their preferred post-school qualification.

7. Principals are requested to bring the content of this minute to the attention of all Life Orientation teachers, members of staff and school governing bodies.
