The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) thanks all schools that participated in the Annual National Assessments (ANA) of 2013. |

The proposed dates for the 2014 universal ANA is 9 to 12 September 2014 according to the Department of Basic Education (DBE). Dates will be confirmed as soon as official notification has been received. |

The DBE has proposed that Grades 7 and 8 be included in the writing of the ANA in 2014. The full cohort of Grades 1 to 9 learners in public ordinary, state-funded independent schools and selected special schools may therefore be required to write the tests in 2014. Principals must thus ensure that their Grades 1 to 9 learners are registered correctly on the Centralised Education Management Information System (CEMIS). |

The timetable will become available once it has been received from the Department of Basic Education. |

As was the case in 2012 and 2013, all ANA scripts will again be marked at school level by the subject teachers. Please factor this into your school’s planning. |

The WCED will once again rely on your support in ensuring the successful management and conduct of these assessments. |
