1. The writing of the common assessment task (CAT) for Life Orientation (LO) was administered on 05 September 2014.
2. The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has informed the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) that candidates who did not write the CAT for LO on 05 September 2014 due to a valid reason will be granted the opportunity to write a supplementary examination on 13 October 2014 from 09:00 - 11:00. Any deviation from this date and time will be regarded as a serious irregularity.
3. The second opportunity to write the CAT for LO will be for those learners that could not write due to a valid reason relating to illness, family problems, or other special reasons. In each case the candidate is required to provide documentary evidence. This opportunity should not be used for candidates who performed poorly in the first examination of the CAT for LO.
4. All other instructions regarding the conduct of the CAT for LO, as stipulated in Assessment Management Minute 0015/2014, must be adhered to in the conduct of the supplementary examination for the CAT for LO.
5. Schools with learners who were absent with a valid reason must complete the attached reply slip and fax it to 021 467 9370 or 021 461 5637 by Tuesday, 30 September 2014.
6. The documentary evidence must be kept on file at school and must be available to district monitors on request.
7. The marking guidelines will be sent to schools and the marking and internal moderation of the scripts must be completed by 20 October 2014.
8. Kindly bring this information to the attention of all Grade 12 Life Orientation teachers and learners.
