1. The Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statements (CAPS) is currently being implemented in Grade 12. The 2014 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination will therefore be based on CAPS.

2. The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has provided Provincial Education Departments with exemplar question papers to assist teachers and learners in their preparations for the 2014 NSC examinations.

3. Exemplar question papers are available in all content subjects and Home Languages Paper 1 only.

4. There are no exemplar question papers for the following subjects:
4.1 Home Languages Paper 2: The current prescribed literature setworks remain the same until 2015 when new setworks will be introduced. Exemplar question papers will be provided in January 2015 in preparation for the assessment, based on the new setworks in the 2015 NSC examinations.
4.2 Home Languages Paper 3: There are no substantial changes in the format of the paper.
4.3 First Additional Languages and Second Additional Languages: There are no changes in the CAPS affecting the format and structure of the examination question papers. Refer to the Examination Guidelines for Official Languages: First Additional Language and Second Additional Language for further information regarding the format of the papers.

5. The exemplars are available on the DBE website at www.education.gov.za. They are also available on the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) FET Assessment website, http://www.wcedcurriculum.westerncape.gov.za/. Click on "Assessment Management / FET Assessment". Click on "Downloads" on the left bar. Click on the "2014 Exemplar Question Papers" folder and download the exemplar question papers.

6. A CD containing the exemplar question papers will be sent to each school offering the NSC as well as the education district offices.

7. Principals are kindly requested to bring this information to the attention of all Grade 12 teachers and learners.
