The Cape Teaching and Leadership Institute (CTLI) will be offering teacher development courses, conferences and seminars listed in the attached Annexure A to principals, deputy principals, department heads and teachers, either during school terms or school holidays, during 2015. |

Teachers interested in attending these courses must register for them via their education district officials (See Annexure B for the contact details of district officials). District officials are required to nominate deserving teachers to attend these training courses and the district director must sign the nominations before they are submitted to the CTLI. |

Registration for conferences and seminars must be done directly with the CTLI. |

The Western Cape Education Department will employ substitute teachers for the duration of courses being attended by incumbent teachers at the CTLI during school terms, provided that
- there is no teacher in excess at the school;
- the incumbent teacher is not a teacher paid by the governing body; and
- the incumbent teacher is not already substituting for another teacher.

It is the responsibility of the school to find and nominate a suitable substitute for a teacher attending a course. |

Courses are repeated a number of times during the year to enable teachers to select courses offered at times when they can attend a full course. |

Only 50 teachers can be registered for each course. These teachers will be drawn from all eight education districts. This means that only a limited number of teachers can attend a course at any given time. |

It is strongly recommended that at a time, two teachers per school should be sent to attend the same course; so that they can support each other during implementation after training. |

Nominations from district offices for courses to be presented during the year must reach the CTLI by 21 November 2014. Each district office is requested to nominate a minimum of 8 teachers per course from deserving schools. |
