WCED Minute

1.	In October 2012, the Western Cape Education Department conducted the Grades 3, 6 and 9 Mathematics and Language Systemic Tests.

2.	The results will be available on the CEMIS from 14 January 2013. Schools are encouraged to access their results as soon as possible so as to incorporate them in their school improvement plans.

3.	The reports to schools provide the pass rates and average scores for each school, as well as performance in the areas of language and mathematics.

The school's results can be accessed on the CEMIS using the following procedure:

Select the menu item "Assessment".
On the drop-down menu, select one of the following:
- For Grade 3 results, select "Grade 3 Lang/Maths Results 2012".
- For Grade 6 results, select "Grade 6 Lang/Maths Results 2012 ".
- For Grade 9 results, select "Grade 9 Lang/Maths Results 2012 ".

The results should appear on the screen.

Should the results not appear, go to the menu bar at the top and select "Tools". Then select "Pop-up Blocker", select "Turn-off Pop-up Blocker" and click.
Once this has been completed, select one of the grades to view the results.

5.	In addition to the results, the WCED will provide exemplars of the types of test items that can be expected in WCED Systemic Tests.

6.	The intention behind the provision of these exemplars is to give schools an idea of the content and question types found in the systemic tests.

To access the exemplars, follow the procedure given below:

Select the menu item, "Assessment"
On the drop-down menu, select the icon indicating the exemplars for the appropriate grade, e.g. "Grade 3 Exemplars", "Grade 6 Exemplars" or "Grade 9 Exemplars".
Click on the subject you wish to open: (Choose between "Language" and "Mathematics").
Two or three boxes with language options will open.
Select the language of your choice and download the exemplars and the educator’s guide.
