1. The ABET Level 4 examinations are scheduled to commence on Friday, 1 November 2013 and end on Monday, 25 November 2013.
2. All registered WCED community learning centres are requested to enter their candidates for these examinations in the learning areas of their choice, provided that the candidates have completed all the unit standards in the learning areas concerned. Where possible, examinations will be provided for all the learning areas offered by candidates. However, the Directorate: Examinations Administration reserves the right not to offer examinations in learning areas where there are too few entries.
3. The examination for a learning area counts 50% of the total mark, while the remaining 50% will be derived from moderated school-based assessment (SBA) portfolios. No learner must be allowed to register for a learning area if he or she has not completed the task(s) for the SBA for the learning area concerned. Candidates with no SBA marks will not receive results.
4. As soon as the November 2013 timetable is received from the Department of Basic Education, it will be provided to all centres.
5. Centre managers must complete a copy of the enclosed entry form for each candidate who wishes to enter for the examinations.

Should a candidate be absent, owing to illness or other unavoidable circumstances, that candidate’s entry form must be signed by the centre manager, who must indicate, next to his or her signature, that the candidate was absent.

6. The following completed forms must be sent to the Directorate: Examinations Administration at Head Office:

  • All the entry forms, arranged alphabetically by surname
  • The attached centre information form (Annexure A)

These completed forms must reach the Department at the following address by no later than Friday, 10 September 2013:

Head: Education
For attention: Mr C Slee, Room 5-15
Directorate: Examinations Administration
Lower Parliament Street
CAPE TOWN
8001

7. Please note that no changes in learning areas will be allowed after entries have been finalised. Entries must therefore be completed accurately. Late entries will not be accepted.
8. Guidelines on standardisation, appeals and certification are to be found in Circular 0027/2004 and must be read in conjunction with the document, National Policy on the Conduct of the ABET Level 4 Examinations, which was provided to public adult learning centres in 2002.
