1. Permission has been granted for schools to take their learners to attend theatre performances of prescribed literature at the Artscape Theatre during school time. Attending such a production will be considered to be an educational tour.

2. The following prescribed literary works will be staged:

3. The cost per ticket for teachers and learners is R40.00. For block bookings and instructions on how to make payments, schools are advised to call one of the following numbers: 083 915 8000 / 011 340 8178 / 021 421 7695. Tickets may also be purchased from Computicket or Shoprite-Checkers. No one will be allowed into the auditorium without a ticket.

4. Transport

Should you need transport for your learners to and from the theatre, write a short letter requesting transport, indicating numbers and providing a short motivation. Address your request to the following address:

5. Educational Benefits
5.1 Viewing a production of a prescribed work at a theatre can be seen as an extension of teaching and learning in the classroom.
5.2 Learners will gain deeper insight into the prescribed work, which, in turn, will improve their examination performance.
5.3 Learners will be exposed to a world other than their local community and school environment.
5.4 Learners will be exposed to the arts and theatre as a possible career opportunity.

6. The Senior Curriculum Planners for Afrikaans, English and isiXhosa will develop accompanying activity sheets which learners will complete after the productions. These activity sheets will be distributed to schools via the Language Curriculum Advisers in the districts.

7. Language teachers are encouraged to plan further pre-, during- and post-production activities for the learners in order to enhance the learning experience.

8. Language teachers are encouraged to make every effort to take their learners to the Artscape Theatre where they can view these live performances.

9. Schools will also receive direct communication from the Artscape Theatre.
