1. The implementation of the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement in Grades 10 - 12 has necessitated changes to the structure of the Mathematics examination. Topics such as Probability and Euclidean Geometry were previously examined only in the optional Mathematics Paper 3. Probability will now be examined in Mathematics Paper 1 and Euclidean Geometry in Mathematics Paper 2.

2. The Department of Basic Education has set common papers in Mathematics for Grade 11, which will be written nationally on 6 and 8 November 2013. Mathematics Paper 1 will be written on 6 November 2013 from 09:00 to 12:00 and Mathematics Paper 2 will be written on 8 November 2013 from 09:00 to 12:00.

3. The writing of the common paper is optional for schools, and will be conducted at schools that have already indicated to the Directorate: Curriculum Development: Further Education and Training (FET) that they wish to write these question papers.

4. Schools that have not indicated that they wish to write the common paper should download the common question papers and marking memoranda from the WCED website after 8 November 2013, using the procedures set out below.
4.1 Go to http://www.wcedcurriculum.westerncape.gov.za/
4.2 Click on "Assessment Management / FET Assessment".
4.3 Click on "Downloads" on the left bar.
4.4 Click on "Grade 11 Mathematics Common Paper" and download the question papers and marking memoranda.

5. Principals and Curriculum Advisers are requested to bring the content of this minute to the attention of the Mathematics teacher and subject heads.
