1. This minute must be read in conjunction with Assessment Management Minute 0010/2013 and provides the dates which must be adhered to in the administration of the Grade 12 common assessment task (CAT) for Life Orientation, which must be written by all schools that prepare candidates for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations.
2. The date for the writing of the CAT is still 4 September 2013, from 09:00 to 10:30, as stated in Assessment Management Minute 0010/2013.
3. The Department of Basic Education informed the Western Cape Education Department in Circular E13 of 2013 that the national marking guideline discussion for the CAT for Life Orientation will take place on 9 and 10 September 2013.
4. The final marking guidelines will be made available to schools by 13 September 2013.
5. Marking must commence on 13 September 2013 and must be completed by 19 September 2013.
6. The provincial moderation of the CAT for Life Orientation will take place on 25 – 27 September 2013.
7. The curriculum adviser for Life Orientation in the education district is required to moderate a sample of scripts.
8. A special mark sheet will be issued to schools in September 2013 for the recording of the marks for the CAT. This mark sheet must be handed in to the curriculum advisor during the moderation session with the other mark sheet provided for the school-based assessment of Life Orientation.
9. The school principal must serve as chief invigilator for the management of the CAT for Life Orientation and must ensure that all conditions and rules relating to NSC examinations are adhered to.
10. Kindly bring this information to the attention of all Grade 12 Life Orientation teachers and learners.
