1. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) is committed to ensuring that the National Senior Certificate examination answer scripts are marked by the most competent markers.
2. In view of this, the WCED conducted competency tests in selected core subjects during April and May 2013.
3. However, there are still a number of vacancies in certain subjects. The WCED has decided to hold a second round of competency tests in certain subjects for which markers are still required. These subjects, together with the dates and times for the competency tests, are listed below.

4. Each competency test will assess knowledge of subject content, application of that content to the examination situation and marking ability.

6. Teachers who wish to write a competency test should report to the appropriate venue at least 30 minutes before the start of the test in order to facilitate registration and reading time.
7. All teachers who write the competency tests must satisfy the criteria provided in Assessment Management Minute 0006/2013 and must complete the relevant forms before writing the test.
8. Please also note that there are still vacancies for markers in the following subjects, for which competency tests are currently not being written.

9. Principals and education district officials are requested to bring the content of this minute to the attention of all staff and to encourage teachers who meet the criteria indicated in in Assessment Management Minute 0006/2013 to apply to mark.
