1. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) will be supplying loose-lay carpets to all Quintile 1 and 2 schools to assist in strengthening teaching and learning in Foundation Phase classrooms.
2. The list of schools who will be receiving these carpets is attached.
3. Every teacher in every classroom from Grades 1 to 3 will receive a carpet, which must be used daily for group teaching. This will be strictly monitored by district officials.
4. Delivery will take place between 14 and 31 January 2013.
5. On receipt of the consignment, the contents must be carefully checked, the consignment note stamped and carpets recorded in the school's inventory. Each carpet must be permanently marked on the underside with the school's name.
6. Schools are expected to ensure that the carpets are cleaned regularly and cared for, as no replacements can be expected in the next 6 to 10 years. The repair and replacement of damaged carpets will be the responsibility of the school.
7. Head Office and district office officials will monitor delivery, use, maintenance and inventory records.
8. Principals are kindly requested to bring the content of this minute to the school management team and the teachers concerned.
