1. In preparation for the Annual National Assessments (ANAs) that will be written from 18 to 21 September 2012, the Department of Basic Education (DBE) has produced exemplar questions in Language and Mathematics for Grades 4 to 6 that must be used by teachers in all schools.
2. A CD, containing the Mathematics test exemplars for the Intermediate Phase on work that is to be covered in the first three school terms of the year, and Language test exemplars for the Intermediate Phase on work that should be covered in the first school term of the year, has been sent to the assessment co-ordinators in the education districts. Schools are requested to collect the CDs from the assessment co-ordinators in the education districts.
3. Exemplars for the Foundation Phase and Grade 9, as well as the remaining Intermediate Phase exemplars, will be distributed to schools once they have been received from the DBE.
4. Curriculum specialists and subject advisers at provincial and district levels are expected to assist teachers to use the exemplars to develop the confidence of their learners when responding to the different types of questions set in the ANAs.
