1. This minute should be read in conjunction with the National Policy on Assessment and Qualifications for Schools in the General Education and Training Band (Government Gazette No. 29626 of 2007), which stipulates the requirements for progression in Grades R to 8, and promotion in Grade 9.
2. The current promotion requirements, as stipulated in Government Gazette No. 29626, will be used for Grade 9 in 2012.
3. Schools in the Western Cape will continue with their own internal programmes of assessment and conduct their own internal examinations in all subjects in Grade 9.
4. The Grade 9 internal examinations to be conducted in Term 4 must constitute 25% of the final promotion mark for each subject.
5. The rest of the formal assessments in Grade 9 will constitute 75% of the final promotion mark for each subject.
6. The Grade 9 promotion schedule for 2012 is now available on the Centralised Education Management Information System (CEMIS), under the heading "Reports".
7. As has been the practice in the past, schools must submit an electronic copy of the Grade 9 promotion schedule to their education district office by 7 December 2012. Education district offices must submit a CD containing all their schools' mark schedules to the Directorate: Assessment Management by 13 December 2012.
