1. In 2010, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) successfully piloted the systemic testing of Grade 9 learners. From 2011, Grade 9 will be fully integrated into the annual WCED Systemic Testing Programme. All schools with more than five Grade 9 learners are required to participate in the programme.
2. As previously communicated, the tests are scheduled for 12 to 25 October 2011, involving one day per school. All schools will be informed of their specific test dates, via an e-mail letter and the CEMIS.
3. The planning and administration of these Grade 9 tests is based on the details captured for each learner on the CEMIS. It is therefore crucial that all learners' details are verified for accuracy.
4. Systemic tests are written under strict examination conditions and it is the responsibility of each school to ensure that such conditions are created.
5. Schools with abnormal absentee rates on the test day may be retested at the discretion of WCED senior management.
6. In order to maintain the integrity of the results, the tests are administered externally by independent service providers.
7. Each school will receive a report on its performance. The intention is to give teachers and support staff an understanding of how learners are performing in language and mathematics, and to provide appropriate support.
8. Your co-operation will be much appreciated.
